Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study is to understand the experience of occupational therapists (OTs) using sensory diets in early intervention (EI) (ages birth to three).
Methods: Qualitative in depth Zoom interviews were conducted using guided open ended questions and the use of audio and video recordings which were transcribed from recording, and note taking.
Results: Four themes emerged from this study that addressed parent education, shared experiences of pediatric occupational therapists, useful sensory strategies, as well as how family resources can impact implementation.
Discussion: For these pediatric OTs, there was a strong belief in incorporating sensory strategies, when feasible, into the family's daily routine in order to promote carryover. These therapists believed that parent education and socioeconomic factors are crucial parts of the intervention process.
